Fine Arts Studio
Buffalo Center For Arts & Technology’s Fine Arts Studio courses not only offer students the opportunity to work with practicing artists, but earn fully transferrable college credit as well! We are proud to announce that this fall we will begin offering our Juniors and Seniors fully transferable credit courtesy our partnership with Villa Maria College. In addition, students will be led in their artistic pursuits by master painter and martial artist, Hiram Cray.
Fine and Applied Arts at BCAT – take students on an exploration of design and painting methods that will lead to a mastery of self creation both on and off the canvas.
Instructor: Kyle William Butler, Villa Maria College
Meets: Mondays and Wednesdays from 4PM – 6PM.
This course will provide a foundation in the fundamentals of pictorial design. In a sequence of hands-on exercises and projects, students are introduced to the concept of the picture plane, figure/ground relationships, scale and proportional transformation, patterning, composition, value, color, methods for conveying time, and spatial illusion.
Using a wide variety of traditional and non- traditional materials and methods, students are encouraged to develop their own design vocabulary and repertoire of practical techniques all the while on a path of self-expression and awareness.
Identities through Portraits
Instructor: Hiram Cray
Meets: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4PM-6PM.
If you can see it, you can be it – or at least have fun trying! Hiram Cray blends the elements of his life experiences as a prolific painter and martial artist to offer students the opportunity to create and recreate themselves and their lives around them. Painting, illustrations and more will be created in this thought provoking class.
